As part of the scientific cooperation agreement between the National Heritage Institute, the Universities of Sfax and Aix-en-Provence-Marseille concerning the enhancement of the archaeological site of Thina in the governorate of Sfax, a series of scientific interventions and works were carried out between 1 and 18 July 2025, including:
- The urgent restoration of the mosaics covering the floors of several monuments on the site and the reinforcement of previous restorations, with complete documentation pending their final presentation in 2026.
- The study of the components of the original mortar used in the buildings and archaeological monuments
- The study of pottery extracted during the work carried out in 2024, with the organisation of a training workshop for Tunisian students (in drawing and pottery recognition)
The creation of a 3D survey of the monuments to be restored, with the scheduling of maintenance and restoration operations in 2025-2026 - Preparation of an example of site development and enhancement, cleaning of the monuments included in the enhancement example and preparation of its technical components.
The next campaign is expected to resume in the last months of the current year, with the continuation of site cleaning and preparation of the visitor route, which will be open to the public at the end of the project.
