Under the supervision of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the National Heritage Institute participated in the second edition of the Biennale of Islamic Arts 2025, organised by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at the Hajjaj Hall of King Abdulaziz Airport from 23 January 2025 to 25 May 2025. More than 32 countries are taking part in this exhibition.
The Tunisian participation is represented by the presentation of eleven objects of high historical value, including eight Kairouan manuscripts between the texts of the Qur’anic manuscripts on the Great Mosque of Kairouan by women of Kairouan, in the early period of Islam in Tunisia, and samples of the papers of these Qur’an. The most important of these texts :
– The endowment text of the Qur’an by al-Mu’izz ibn Badis al-Zeri.
– Two examples of Qur’an leaves.
– The other three items on display are three Arabic inscriptions in marble from Tunis, one of which is the text of the endowment of the Tunisian princess Mahbouba Beyah for a road and a well that she built with her own money.
The Tunisian archaeological collection attracted a great deal of interest from visitors to the exhibition, due to its scientific and historical value.
It should also be noted that the Director General of the National Heritage Institute and Raja Aoudi, Director of Archaeological and Historical Research at the Institute and general coordinator of Tunisia’s participation in the exhibition, were present at the opening ceremony.
