It’s official: Sidi Bou Saïd is now a UNESCO World Heritage site!
July 25, 2026
This prestigious recognition was announced during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee, meeting in Busan, South Korea.
This historic achievement is the result of rigorous work and expertise by the National Heritage Institute (INP), under the auspices of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. It also embodies an exemplary collective effort, driven by the ongoing collaboration of the Ennejma Ezzahra Center for Arab and Mediterranean Music, the Municipality of Sidi Bou Saïd, and civil society members.
The blue-and-white jewel of the Mediterranean—a universal symbol of light, poetry, and traditional architecture—now sees its brilliance etched into history. A vibrant tribute to the richness of Tunisian heritage and identity.
