The research project on the archaeological site of Thapsus

As part of an international cooperation agreement between the Institut National du Patrimoine and La Rochelle University, the research project on the archaeological site of Thapsus (Bekalta, Monatsir) was continued with the fifth archaeological mission from 26 April to 23 May 2025, under the responsibility of researchers Yamen Sghaïer (INP) and Laurence Tranoy (LienSs), with the participation of researchers, curators and students (Tunisian, French, Spanish and Italian).

The campaign included
– Archaeological excavations and test pits;
– Geophysical and classical surveys
– Topographical and architectural surveys;
– Aerial photography using a thermal camera;
– Inventory and study of archaeological material;
– Sampling and taking sediment samples for analysis;
– Consolidation of archaeological structures
