Following the mission carried out in October 2024 by the Director General of the National Heritage Institute, Mr. Tarek Baccouche, to the Arab World Institute in Paris to study the situation of Tunisian archaeological and ethnographic artefacts that have been there since 1995 as part of the ‘Museum of Arab Museums’ project, it was agreed with the French side to extend the loan period for the items currently on display at the museum, on condition that they be recovered at the end of 2026, along with the six items stored in the reserves.
In accordance with this agreement, the services of the National Heritage Institute were able to receive the six artefacts (06) at the freight station of Tunis-Carthage Airport on 30 July 2025, namely two archaeological artefacts from the sites of Carthage and Sabra Mansouria in Kairouan and four ethnographic artefacts belonging to the Museum of Customs and Traditions in Tunis.
