As part of an international cooperation agreement between the INP and ICAC, the research project on the archaeological site of Sidi Saïd (Bargou, Siliana) was launched with an initial archaeological mission from 24 May to 13 June 2025, under the responsibility of researchers Yamen Sghaïer (INP), Chokri Touihri (INP), Maria Carme Belarte (ICAC) and David Montanero (ICAC), with the participation of Tunisian and Spanish researchers, curators and students.
During this first campaign, the following activities were carried out:
– Excavations and test pits;
– Geophysical prospecting;
– A conventional survey of the site’s surroundings;
– Study and inventory of the objects discovered.
This work enabled the documentation of settlements and fortifications dating back to the Numidian period, with the discovery of a considerable amount of pottery, mainly modelled, in a very good state of preservation. This latest work has added to our hitherto limited knowledge of life in this region of Tunisia between the 5th and 2nd centuries BC.)
