On Tuesday 28 January 2025, Mrs Amina Sarrafi, Minister of Cultural Affairs, signed the submission of the UNESCO World Heritage application for the town of Sidi Bou Said.
‘Sidi Bou Said Village: a hub of cultural and spiritual inspiration in the Mediterranean’.
The application will be sent to UNESCO headquarters in Paris, where it will be studied and assessed over a period of eighteen months. The evaluation will cover a wide range of aspects, including the architectural and artistic heritage, as well as the social and cultural interaction that characterises Sidi Bou Said.
The final results will be announced in the second half of 2026, marking an important moment in Sidi Bou Said’s journey towards global recognition of its cultural heritage, reinforcing its status as an exceptional cultural destination at world level, contributing to the promotion of cultural tourism and Tunisia’s position in the global cultural context.
